ANNEXATION

Annexation is the process used by cities to bring surrounding areas within their Urban Growth Area (UGA) into city limits. Annexation is consistent with the policies established in the States Growth Management Act (GMA) where cities should provide urban services.  

SOUTHWEST ANNEXATION

On February 23, the Lake Stevens City Council passed a Resolution (2009-1), calling for an election pursuant to CH 35A.14. RCW; the Resolution submits the proposal for annexation and simultaneous adoption of the proposed zoning regulations to the qualified voters of the Southwest Annexation Area, as described and shown herein (SEE MAP). A ballot will be presented to the qualified voters living within the proposed annexation area to be voted on the November General Election.

The City’s goal is to ensure that citizens are able to make an informed decision about annexation based on factual information. A FAQ Sheet has been created and is available to view on line (FAQ SHEET). City staff and Council members are available to host informal coffee hours with citizens and are able to attend local neighborhood and small group meetings to provide any additional information and to answer questions.
