CITY BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS
The City has standing citizen boards and commissions, whose purpose is to advise the City Council on a variety of issues. A few of the boards and commissions have quasi-judicial functions. All board and commission members are appointed by the Mayor with City Council approval. Whenever a vacancy occurs on a board or commission, applications are available at City Hall, and applicants are interviewed by the Mayor and Chair of that board or commission. The Mayor then makes his/her recommendation to the City Council. All members of City boards and commissions, except members of the Civil Service Commission, who must be City residents, need to live or own property in the City limits or urban growth area.

ARTS COMMISSION
Meeting date: 2nd & 4th Wednesday at 6:30 pm
Location: Community Center, 1808 Main Street
The Arts Commission is comprised of seven members who are appointed to four-year terms. The primary functions of the board are to advise the City Council about use of the Municipal Arts Fund, and selection and acquisition of art work for the City. This commission was established July 1996.

CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION
Meeting date: 4th Monday at 6:00 pm as needed
The Police Civil Service Commission is comprised of three members, each serving a six-year term. This commission adopts rules and regulations to implement the City’s Civil Service Ordinance. They review ordinance regulations that pertain to the hiring of Police Officers and administer the City’s Civil Service program.

The Library Board is comprised of nine members who are appointed to four-year terms. This board advises the City Council on matters concerning the library, including service provisions and budget recommendations.

The Park and Recreation Planning Board is comprised of seven members who are appointed to four-year terms. The functions of this board include advising the City Council about: acquisition of parks, recreation programming and development, design and operation of parks and recreation facilities.
