State Route 92 Roundabout Project

WSDOT concept roundabout at 113th Avenue NE

The two roundabouts on SR 92 at 99th Avenue NE and 113th Avenue NE are expected to be constructed over the summer of 2013.  A design-build contractor has been selected for the two roundabouts along SR 92.  The contractor is a joint venture between Graham (Seattle) and Marshbank Construction (Lake Stevens).

The site work is expected to begin in June, though some preliminary activities may be seen in May. The target date for the roundabouts to be fully operation to traffic is by the end of August 2013. The intent is to have both intersections open for the start of the fall school session.

WSDOT will be the lead on this project and will be posting updates on line. WSDOT project's web site can be viewed by clicking on the following link http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/projects/sr92/99throundabout/ .

Following the opening of the two roundabouts, finish work will take place.  This is expected to occur through the fall when the island landscaping is expected to be planted.

During the construction the contractor expects to have minimal closures to traffic, except for a full 5 day closure for paving and some concrete work. Shortly after construction begins, all left turn movements at both intersections will be restricted throughout the duration of the project. Through and right turn movements are expected to be preserved for the duration of the project except for the 5 day full closure and temporary closures. Except for emergencies, advance notification will be provided of a road closure and a detour signed.

Most to the work is anticipated to occur during daylight hours with some night work, especially during the 5 day closure. Some noise and vibration is expected throughout the construction, including the night work. The Contractor’s effort will be to keep this to a minimum during night work. Typically a project of this size would take 6 months or more from start to full operations. With an aggressive schedule of three months, the night work is critical to getting these two projects completed.

New Old Sign in Downtown
New Old Sign
There is a new "old" sign welcoming people into downtown Lake Stevens thanks to the help of volunteer Leah Grassl and the Lake Stevens Rotary.

The old sign had been overgrown with vegetation over the past few years and almost forgotten. Leah volunteered to refurbish the sign for the community and worked with the Lake Stevens Rotary to provide the supplies needed to refurbish the sign to make it look new again.

The sign has been relocated to Main Street at the Northshore Drive intersection.

Leah is a long-time resident of Lake Stevens and now a student at Western. She is also volunteering as an technical intern working on lake management projects and education.

Thanks Leah! Also, thank you to Kathy Little and the Lake Stevens Rotary.
