Planning & Community Development
The Department of Planning and Community Development consists of a Planning Division, Building Division, as well as a Permit Center.

Planning Division Services
  • The Planning Division prepares, administers, and implements land use plans, proposals and policies, parks and open space proposals, and codes that guide and regulate the physical, economic and social development of the City. 
  • The Planning Division assists the public with land use, zoning, and site development questions; reviews development permits for consistency with adopted plans and regulations; coordinates special events; and enforces municipal codes.
  • The Planning Division also provides oversight of Parks and Recreation planning.

Building Division Services
  • The Building Division reviews and inspects building and site development projects to ensure that they achieve public life, safety, and accessibility standards.
  • The Building Division also provides code advice on construction projects, supporting our citizens, homeowners, designers, architects, engineers, and/or developers.
  • Inspections – you can request an inspection over the counter or by telephone at (425) 377-3220. To guarantee a timely inspection, please make your inspection requests 24 hours in advance.

Permit Center Services
  • Permit Center staff coordinate development and permitting projects between the Planning and Community Development and Public Works departments.
  • They also assist customers during the permitting process.
